Spring Valley Farm ... An Old Fashioned Farm

Spring Valley Farm is nestled in the gently rolling hills of northwestern Illinois. Unlike the farms of today, Spring Valley Farm is home to many creatures.

We operate a Grade A Dairy with our registered Jersey herd. We raise and sell their offspring for breeding stock as well as natural beef. Check out our Jersey Page to meet the girls and learn more about their rich whole milk.

Alpacas and Merino sheep are raised for their fiber and wool which we sell in raw form as well as processed into roving, yarns and finished goods, such as scarves, hats, mittens and the like. Once you've felt the soft warmth of alpaca, you'll fall in love. And who can resist their gentle nature and soft humming sounds. Come meet the herd!

Belgian horses were the tractors of olden days. Although we do have modern tractors, our horses do their share of work around the farm, too. We offer horse drawn wagon rides, buggie rides for special occasions, and they've been known to still do farm work as well.

Naturally grown chicken and eggs are out of this world. Our chickens are let out to roam the farm, catching bugs and worms as well as eating grasses. They help keep the fly population down by eating fly larvae, too. These natural foods make their eggs a rich, dark yellow yolk with firm whites. We have a mixture of breeds so our eggs can be any color from white to dark brown, tan to green or even blue!

Even our goats have a purpose. They're used to help keep weeds down. We rotate pastures so what one animal doesn't eat, another will. This allows us to use nature instead of herbisides, insecticides and other non-organic weed and pest control methods.

We're dedicated to operating this farm organically, although we aren't certified as yet. We are firm believers that we are here to take care of the land and the animals that live here. As we also eat what we grow, which includes our own vegetables, we want to grow the most nutricious and delicious foods we can. We eat our own meats, eggs, vegetables and even our raw milk. Our hopes are to have a successful diversified "stock" portfolio that we can hand down to our children some day.
